MAGNA CARTA
"No person shall...be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law"
When King John began to abuse his power he greatly annoyed the barons of the land. The king was heavily taxing the barons and were abusing their rights.
The barons, who in the feudal system were right below the king in power, were sick and tired of his behavior so they rebelled against the King. They wanted the King to give his seal on a document that would limit his power.
- Some terms in the contract were:
13. The city of London shall enjoy all its ancient liberties and free customs, both by land and by water. We also will and grant that all other cities, boroughs, towns, and ports shall enjoy all their liberties and free customs.
40. To none will we sell, to none deny or delay, right or justice.
